The Enhanced Learning Teacher is employed to work with children and young adults in primary and secondary who need extra support or require an advanced program of education in order to complete their learning successfully. Special Education Needs (SEN) teachers may work with individuals who are physically disabled, sensory impaired, have speech and language difficulties such as dyslexia, have a mental disability such as autism, are emotionally vulnerable or have a combination of these disabilities.
Here，Enhanced Learning Teacher may also work with gifted and talented individuals. A key aspect of working in this field is identifying individual needs and being responsible for creating a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment
Key accountabilities
• Inspire and drive the development and implementation of the Enhanced Learning department.
• Advise which students need to have Psychological Educational testing in order for XLIS to be able to fully support them.
• Develop and monitor Individualized Education Plans for students who have taken Ed-Psyc assessments.
• Manage a balanced caseload of students from the primary and secondary school. Prioritizing students most in need of support.
Main tasks
• Teaching either individuals or small groups of students within or outside the class.
• Preparing lessons and resources.
• Marking and assessing work.
• Developing or adapting conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils.
• Using specialist skills, to help students in their learning.
• Collaborate with other teachers to define appropriate activities for the students to access the curriculum.
• Assessing children who have long or short-term learning difficulties
• Liaising closely with parents and guardians.
• Administration, including updating and maintaining records on student’s progress. - Developing, reviewing, and updating Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
• Behaviour management.
• Giving advice about student personal and academic life.
• Lead workshops for teachers and parents on how to support students with special needs
