This semester, our workshops and conferences underscored our commitment to equipping educators with essential tools, strategies, and insights.Engaging with Global Thought LeadersIn February, Rachel French conducted a workshop at Shanghai Vanke Bilingual School on the Concept-Based Inquiry model. Educators learned to implement inductive teaching strategies, reflected on different inquiry methods, and used guiding questions to promote deeper student inquiry. Participants left empowered to transform their educational practices.In March, Dr. Jennifer Chang Wathall led a workshop at Shekou International School that emphasized a deep understanding of mathematics beyond memorization. Educators distinguished between facts, processes, and concepts, enabling them to design more integrated lessons. The workshop prepared participants to create unit plans fostering deep conceptual understanding and a love for mathematics.
May saw Dr. Andrea Honigsfeld’s workshop on multilingualism, which provided practical strategies for inclusive learning environments. Educators learned to view linguistic diversity as an asset and implement asset-based pedagogy, moving away from deficit thinking. Strategies like content and language-integrated learning were highlighted to support language acquisition and content understanding. Encouraged by the success of these workshops, we have invited several presenters to China for the 2024/2025 academic year. Our semester included participation in prestigious events such as the IB China Education Forum in Shenzhen, where we connected with professionals and hosted an appreciation night for 200 administrators. We also participated in the 7th Annual Education Festival in Shanghai, attracting over 50 educators and thought leaders.
